Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 lbs (680g) sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil (or vegetable oil)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey (or brown sugar)
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
- 1 tablespoon water (if using cornstarch)
- 2 tablespoons green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Steak:
- Pat the steak cubes dry with paper towels.
- Season lightly with salt and pepper.
- Sear the Steak Bites:
- Heat sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Add steak cubes in a single layer (work in batches if necessary). Sear for 2-3 minutes per side until browned and cooked to your desired doneness. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
- Make the Sauce:
- In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium. Add garlic and ginger and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Stir in soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes (if using). Let it simmer for 1-2 minutes.
- If you want a thicker glaze, mix the cornstarch with water in a small bowl and stir it into the sauce. Cook for an additional minute until thickened.
- Combine and Serve:
- Return the steak bites to the skillet and toss them in the sauce until well coated.
- Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Steak Options: Sirloin works best, but ribeye or flank steak can also be used.
- Sweetness: Adjust the honey or sugar for a sweeter glaze if desired.
- Add Veggies: Stir-fry vegetables like broccoli, bell peppers, or snap peas can be added for a complete meal.
- Spice Level: Add more red pepper flakes or a drizzle of sriracha for extra heat.
