Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 package (32 oz) frozen tater tots
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef (or turkey) over medium heat, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat, then add the chopped onion. Cook until the onion becomes soft and translucent.
- Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Cook the mixture for about 3-5 minutes, allowing it to blend together and become heated through.
- Transfer the beef mixture into a 9×13-inch baking dish and spread it out evenly.
- Top the beef mixture with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese. You can overlap them slightly if needed.
- Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and allow it to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can swap the ground beef for turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
- For a vegetarian version, use plant-based crumbles instead of ground meat.
- Add a layer of vegetables like peas or green beans for a more balanced meal.
- Feel free to sprinkle some extra cheese on top during the last few minutes of baking for an extra cheesy crust.
