Ingredients

Scale

For the Bread:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup toasted pecans, chopped
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)

For the Pecan Topping:

  • 1/2 cup pecan halves or pieces
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Prepare the Bread:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan, or line it with parchment paper.
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
    • In a large bowl, beat together the granulated sugar and eggs until light and fluffy. Add the vegetable oil, sour cream, and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Stir in the chopped toasted pecans until well combined.
    • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly.
  • Make the Pecan Topping:
    • In a small bowl, combine the chopped pecans, melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir until the pecans are evenly coated.
    • Sprinkle the pecan topping evenly over the batter in the loaf pan.
  • Bake the Bread:
    • Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean.
    • Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Serve and Enjoy:
    • Once cooled, slice the Sweet Alabama Pecan Bread and enjoy! It can be served as is or with a spread of butter or cream cheese.
