  • 23 medium Russet potatoes (about 1.5 lbs), peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups green or Savoy cabbage, chopped
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and sauté onions and cabbage until soft (about 8 minutes).
  3. In a greased baking dish, layer sliced potatoes, sautéed onions and cabbage, then shredded cheese. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used.
  4. In a bowl, mix heavy cream with salt and pepper; pour over layered ingredients until just covered.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil in the last 15 minutes for a golden crust.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving.
